Janie Cutrell Swindell, 97, of the Swindell Fork Commun
ity, Swan Quar ter, died at home Frid ay, Dec. 17,
2010.
Funeral se rvices will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sund ay,
Dec. 19, at So ule United Methodist Church with Mr.
Steve Bryan officiating. The family will greet visitors
in Berry Hall af ter the service. There will be a private
burial at Soule Cemetery.
Scott Coble, Jerry Burleson, Michael Cahoon, Bobby
Harris, and Dick Tunnell will serve as pallbearers.
Born in Hyde County on Nov. 17, 191 3, Mrs. Swindell
was t he daughter of the late Jose ph S. and Annie
M. Cutrell. She was predeceased by husband, John
H. Swinde ll, brother, Guy R. Cutrell, sisters, E dna C.
Carawan and Dell C. Simpkins and great-grandson,
Jake Griffin.
Mrs. Swindell was a secretary and served as Register
of Deeds of Hyde County during World War II. She was
a member o f Soule United Methodi st Church, Soule
Ladies Aid Society, and United Methodist Women. She
was a charter member, 1944, of the Order o f Easter n
Star, 232, Swan Quarter, N.C. and later a member of the
Fairfield Chapter, 247.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia S. Griff in
and husband, Bill, of Elizabeth City, and Lucinda S. Bordeaux
and husband, Floyd, of Roanoke Rapid s; by sisters-
in-law, Ma ry-Loui se S. McGee and Hazel A. Lane;
four grandchildren, Mark Griffin and wife, Susan, Carol
Griffin Flowers and husband, Danny, Sara Bordeaux
Hunter and husband, Brandon, an d Rac hel Bordeaux
Ashby; great-grandchildren, Kristen and Cassidy Flowers,
Carlton Ashby, Hayes Victo ria Hunter and Colton,
Cannon and Kate Griffin; and special caregivers.
