Billy C. Bland Sr., age 63, a resident of Deer Track Road, Washington, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at his residence. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Grace Family Fellowship in Robersonville at 3 p.m. with Wayne Edmondson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
Mr. Bland was born Jan. 5, 1947 in Martin County, son of the late Rubin F. “Shorty Sr.” Bland and the former Ella Brown. He attended Robersonville schools and served 17 years in the United States Army. Mr. Bland was formerly married to Catherine Clark Harding, who survives. He was a retired self-employed chef and worked with the Masonic Lodge in Raleigh and Wilson, N.C. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #989 and served as a governor of the Moose. He was also a member and officer of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include one daughter, Connie Bland Langley of Winterville; a son, Billy Clyde “BC” Bland Jr.; four sisters, Pat Cole of Wendell, Dot Nelson of Robersonville, Connie Boyette and Lynette Bland Taylor, both of Woodbridge, Va.; five grandchildren, Billy C. Bland III, Hannah Bland, Dylan Bland, all of Washington, and Jaden Langley and Charlotte “Charli Grace” Sikes, both of Winterville; and his former wife, Catherine Clark Harding. He was preceded in death by one sister, MaryAnna Pierce; two brothers, Johnny Bland and Rubin “Shorty Jr.” Bland Jr.
