Mrs. Marie Louise Jamsems Gurkin, age 83, a resident of 425 Long Ridge Road, Pinetown, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Kent Gurganus Wayne Jocelyn and Rev. William Bill Mobley. Burial will follow in the Boyd Family Cemetery of Pinetown.
Mrs. Gurkin was born in Belgium on Jan. 23, 1927, daughter of the late Victor Jamsems and the late Dena Bosmans Jamsems. She met the love of her life, Hilton Gray Gurkin, Sr., while he was serving his country overseas. They both returned to Mr. Gurkin’s native Beaufort County. Mrs. Gurkin was a member of Pinetown Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons: Hilton Gray Gurkin of Pinetown and Horace Edward Gurkin of Ontario, Calif; six grandchildren; a special caregiver and nurse: Wendy Ditto, which the family is thankful for her kindness and care; five brothers of Belgium and one sister of Belgium. Mrs. Gurkin was preceded in death by a daughter: Lessette G. Byrne.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mrs. Gurkin’s son, Hilton, located at 437 Long Ridge Road, Pinetown, N.C.
