Mrs. Essie Maria White Broome, age 99, a former resident of Aurora, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Britthaven of Washington.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the Aurora United Methodist Church in Aurora, conducted by Rev. Tim Ware, Rev. Owen Peele and Rev. John Yount. Burial will follow at High Hill Cemetery, Aurora.
Mrs. Broome was born in Bladenboro, N.C., on Oct. 2, 1911. She was the daughter of the late William Stephen White and Sarah Caroline Callahan White. Mrs. Broome graduated from Aurora High School. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Broome was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. She was a devoted and active member of the Church Choir, the United Methodist Women and the Alice E. Thompson Sunday School Class. Mrs. Broome was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
On Jan. 15, 1938, she married Hardy Broome, who preceded her in death, Nov. 8, 1970.
Mrs. Broome is survived by her son, Steve Broome and his wife, Paula, of Raleigh; her granddaughter, Anna Broome of Greenville; and several nephews and nieces including Carol Broome of Aurora.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Broome was preceded in death by two brothers, Lacy and Archie White.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the Aurora United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Broomes family expresses their appreciation to the staff of Britthaven of Washington for all their kind attention and support during her illness.
