Mr. Clyde Hicks, age 85, a resident of 194 Old Bath Highway, Washington, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Second Baptist Church and will be conducted by Rev. Scott Setzer. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Deacons and Men’s Sunday School class members will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Hicks was born March 23, 1925 in Gadsden, Ala., to the late Luther and Zera Thrasher Hicks. On June 21, 1947, he married Wilma Waldrop who preceded him in death on April 13, 2006. He served in the United States Marine Corps, during World War II and the Korean War and retired as a Gunnery Sgt. after 23 years of service. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Men’s Bible School Class, Deacon and was chairman of the Homecoming Committee for 40 years. He was also a member and past master of Port Royal, South Carolina Masonic Lodge A.F. &A. # 242. Mr. Hicks retired as Food Service Manager with the Beaufort County Hospital after 23 years of service.
Survivors include one son, Michael Hicks and wife, Julie, of Washington; two grandchildren, Charles Joyner and wife, Megan, of Sterling, Va., John Cook of Clayton; one great-grandson, Caleb Joyner; one brother, Robert Earl Hicks and wife, Judy, of Gadsden, Ala.; three sisters-in-law, Gaynelle Waldrop of Gadsden, Ala., Sybil Aldridge of Rome, Ga., and Katherine Hicks of Gadsden, Ala. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Hicks and Ray Hicks.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home of Michael and Julie Hicks, 107 S. Eden Drive, Washington.
