The Beaufort County Board of Commissioners will convene a special called meeting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, in the Multi-purpose Room of Building 10 on the Beaufort County Community College campus, according to an announcement of the meeting issued late Tuesday afternoon by County Manager Paul Spruill.
The announcement states that the meeting has been called in order to allow the county commissioners prepare for its review next week of the Dec. 10 proposals from future hospital operators Community Health Systems and University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina.
The board will convene a second special called meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the Multi-purpose Room of Building 10 on the BCCC campus in order to begin the process of reviewing proposals.
The announcement indicates that portions of both meetings may be in closed session. The board anticipates reviewing first the proposal from CHS, Spruill said. The Beaufort Regional Health System Board of Commissioners on Monday approved a proposal from CHS to operate the hospital and recommended that the Board of County Commissioners approve the underlying ground lease for the necessary real estate owned by Beaufort County.
Future special meetings of the county commissioners related to this review process will be scheduled and announced as necessary, Spruill said.
