Mr. Ezekiel Bill Dixon, age 89, a resident of 10995 U.S. Highway 17 N., Vanceboro, N.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Rev. Clifton Ball and Rev. Michael Coombs. Burial will follow in the Celestial Memorial Gardens of Vanceboro. Anthony Fulcher, Greg Fulcher, Allen Dixon, Austin Dixon, Kenneth Hardy, Sam Webster, Billy Tankard and Anthony Waters will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Wells, Keith Wetherington, Buddy Worrell, Earl Toler, Mike Dixon and Jay Dixon.
Mr. Bill was born in Pitt County on Feb. 13, 1921, son of the late Lanier Dixon and the late Annie Tyer Dixon. He married the former Henrietta Worrell on Dec. 23, 1939, who preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1975. Mr. Bill later married Nellie Keech Webster on June 4, 1978, who survives. He was a retired farmer and the owner/operator of Dixons Service Station. Mr. Bill was an avid hunter and a member of Pollard Swamp Hunting Club and a member of Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving along with Mr. Bills wife Nellie of the home are four daughters: Joyce Toler and her husband, Louis, Marietta Mills and her husband, Ledrew, and Janice Dixon and friend, Michele, all of Vanceboro, and Brenda Hardy of Chocowinity; a daughter-in-law: Carlotta Dixon Chandler and her husband, Gene, of Vanceboro; three stepchildren: Carol Waters, Tommy Webster and his wife, Janie, all of Pinetown, and Sandy Tankard and her husband, Midge, of Bath; nine grandchildren: Joy Connor, Earl Toler, Allen Dixon, Michelle Crow, Anthony Fulcher, Rhonda Ipock, Greg Fulcher, Kenneth Hardy and Angie Manning; nine step-grandchildren: Anthony Waters, William Asa Waters, Jr., Patti Waters, Allen Waters, Stephanie Jones, Sam Webster, Penny Modlin, Billy Tankard and Michael Mills; two sisters: Margie Smiley of Washington and Mildred Roberson of Greensboro; a brother: Sam Dixon and his wife, Geraldine, of Washington; 18 great-grandchildren; 18 step great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife: Henrietta, three sons: E.B. Dixon, Jr., Michael Reed Dixon and Melvin Dixon; a son-in-law: Ronald Bolt Hardy; seven brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home.
