Mr. Paul Thomas Canalizo, age 78, a resident of Washington, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pamlico Plantation Clubhouse and at other times at the home.
A committal service will be held at a later date at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y.
Mr. Canalizo was born Dec. 6, 1932 in Freeport, N.Y. to Rene and Elsie Sims Canalizo. He graduated from East Rockaway High School and attended trade school. Paul worked as a land surveyor and was a member of the N.C. Society of Surveyors. He was married to the former Marietta Salatino on Aug. 21, 1982. Mr. Canalizo proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Canalizo is survived by five children, Susan Canalizo of Islip, N.Y., Lauren Kidby of Stafford, Va., Erik Maskelony of Arlington, Va., Richard Canalizo of Oyster Bay, N.Y. and Charles Canalizo of Florence, Mass.; and eight grandchildren, Stacey Ortiz of Forest Hills, N.Y., Samantha and Joshua Kidby, both of Stafford, Va., Charlotte and Owen Maskelony, both of Arlington, Va., Will, Olivia and Isabel Canalizo, all of Port Washington, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rene and James Canalizo.
