George H. Hodges, Jr.

Mr. George H. Hodges, Jr., 84, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved late wife Pauline White, on Jan. 9, 2011. Born on March 26, 1926, in Beaufort County, N.C., he was the son of the late George H. and Lucy Hardison Hodges. George was predeceased by his brothers, Paul, and Durwood Hodges, and his sister Gladys Pauline as well as his eldest son, George H. Hodges, III.
As a young man, George served in both the Navy and Army. He married Pauline Sept. 21, 1946. They were married for 54 years and had three sons. Survivors include, Jimmie C. Hodges and his wife Lynn, Michael H. Hodges and his wife Cathy. He had four grandsons, Michael, Phillip, Travis, and Stephen as well as three great-grandchildren, Ava, Nathan, and McKenzie. He is also survived by his three sisters, Elsie Hickman, Gladys Roberson and Doris Byrd as well as two brothers, James and Milton Hodges.
After retiring with many years of service at Giant Open Air and Farm Fresh, George became very active at Immanuel Baptist Church in Chesapeake. There he served as a Deacon and AWANA leader. After moving to Corapeake, he attended Abundant Hope Baptist Church. He was an avid reader and loyal Redskins fan.
A funeral service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church today at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dave Libengood officiating. George will be laid to rest with his wife and son at a later time. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
