Ms. Dorothy Rae Taylor, 79, a resident of 156 Ann St., Chocowinity, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Ridgewood Nursing Center of Washington.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Capt. Christopher Lyles. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Jeremey Warren, Jeremy Eckenrode, Acey Paschall, Wesley Lines, Mark Ball and Alan Gruenwald will serve as pallbearers.
Ms. Dorothy was born in Pitt County on Sept. 3, 1931, daughter of the late Harvey Lee Hyman and the late Nora Braxton Suggs. She was a homemaker and a member of the Washington Salvation Army.
Ms. Dorothy was very active in her church serving as secretary for nine years and also serving as the girls’ youth leader.
Ms. Dorothy is survived by a daughter: Cathy Montemurro of Washington; two sons: Walter Kenneth Taylor of High Point and Jeffery Lee Taylor of Chocowinity; two brothers: Thurman Braxton of Chocowinity and Linwood Braxton of Washington; a sister: Karen Shearouse of Goldsboro; two grandchildren: Eric Taylor and Jennifer Wilaby and three great-grandchildren: Isabella Wilaby, Raleigh Taylor and Parker Taylor. Mrs. Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Wayne Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington.
