Mr. Dean Sarff, 66, a resident of 301 Island Drive, Bay Harbour, Chocowinity, died on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at home after a nine-year struggle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Washington, conducted by Dr. Jimmy Moore and Dr. Greg Barmer.
Mr. Sarff was born in Bethesda, Md., on May 28, 1944. He was the son of the late Sidney Dean Sarff and Margery Morton Sarff. Mr. Sarff graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High and was an alumnus of Montgomery College. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy Mobile Construction Battalion MCB-128. After working with several major technology companies, he was an Information Technology specialist with the U.S. Department of Interior BOEMRE at his passing.
Mr. Sarff lived in Olney, Md., for 29 years. He was a member of the Greater Olney Civic Association where he received the Citizen of the Year award for 1979 and was the Heritage Award winner in 2004. Mr. Sarff coached three sports for 14 years for Olney Recreation Department. He was a member of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Reunion Committee, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. Mr. Sarff was a member and a deacon at the Charles Town (WV) Baptist Church. He moved to Chocowinity in June of 2006. Mr. Sarff was a member of the First Baptist Church of Washington, where he served also as a deacon.
On Jan. 5, 1997, Mr. Sarff married his wife, Karen Innamorato Sarff, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are his children, Gayle Denise Sarff and her life partner, Janel Matheny and her son, Christopher Sarff; Shirley Sarff Dabbondanza and husband, Jerry, and their sons James and Joseph; Michael Dean Sarff and wife, Jennifer and sons, William and Michael (Mac) and daughter Josephine; two stepsons, Donato Innamorato and wife, Mary, and son Alexander; Andrew Innamorato and wife, Jennifer, son Justin and his daughter, Bailey, and daughter Rebecca; and stepdaughter, Alessandra Innamorato.
The family will receive friends after the service in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church.
