Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pugh “Lib” Rose, age 79, a resident of 1001 Beaver Dam Road, Pinetown, N.C., died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Belhaven Assembly of God officiated by Pastor Kenneth Pritchard and Pastor Alan Harmon. Burial will follow in Odd Fellow’s Cemetery of Belhaven. Members of Sidney Dive Team: Tony Manning, Ron Holloman, Lacy Williams, David McKeel, Steve Burnette, Major Garris, Jay Morgan and Tex Melton will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Lib was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 10, 1931, daughter of the late Samuel L. Pugh and the late Bertha R. Keech Pugh. She was a graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School where she received the John A. Wilkinson Award as a senior and excelled in girls Bulldog Basketball. Mrs. Lib was a retired Insurance Specialist with C.O. Boyette Medical Clinic. She was a member of Belhaven Assembly of God where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of Belhaven Garden Club and Belhaven Bridge Club. Mrs. Lib was an avid book reader and her favorite book was the Holy Bible which she studied intensely.

Survivors include three sons: James Dare Rose, Jr. and his wife Sandy of Shreveport, La., Edward Dennis Rose of Greenville, N.C., and Jon Scott Rose, Sr. and his wife Teresa of Pinetown, N.C.; a daughter: Teresa R. Ricks of Belhaven, N.C.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lib was preceded in death by a son: Anthony “Tony” Neal Rose; two granddaughters: Alana Ricks and Amy Rose; two brothers: Richard Pugh and Buddy Pugh; two sisters: Edna White and Erma Rae Wilkins.

The family will receive friends starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Belhaven Assembly of God Church and at other times at her home.
