Mary K. Smithwick

Mary Katherine Hewitt Smithwick, 84, a resident of Autumfield Field Rest Home of Belhaven and a former resident of New Lake Community of Belhaven, died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven officiated by Scott Askew. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Clayton, Carr Baynor, Chad Alvis, Junior Mills, Doug Armstrong, and Macon Smithwick.
Mrs. Smithwick was born in Chesapeake, Va., on Dec. 24, 1926, daughter of the late Howard Leroy Hewitt and the late Madeline A. Wood Hewitt. She was a 1943 graduate of South Norfolk High School. Mrs. Smithwick married Harold Doron Smithwick on March 18, 1950, who preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2000. She was a homemaker, a member of Lindale Church of Christ in Chesapeake, Va., and attended Mt. Olive Church of Christ when her health permitted.
Mrs. Smithwick is survived by three daughters: Mary Lou Claypoole and her husband, David of Windsor, Va., Linda Alvis and her husband, Nick of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sheryl Radcliff and her husband, Lee of Belhaven, four grandchildren: Michelle Menninger, Courtney March, Chad Alvis and Amber Mills and six great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Sheryl and Lee Radcliff located at 1269 New Lake Road, Belhaven, N.C.
