Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

The original tea party was a protest against paying taxes to a foreign government, not a protest against paying taxes to support our own way of life for future generations. Current tea partiers don’t have a problem with the sacrifices made by previous generations so that we can all be educated, protected and enjoy a lifestyle second to none. Our legacy will be determined by whether we follow the tea partiers and take our toys and go home, or whether we, as our parents did, leave this place better than we found it.

I love the umbrella on Main Street.

By the figures in the WDN, there are 1.5 Washington Electric Utilities customers outside the city as opposed to each WEU customer inside the city. So, we outside the city are paying your bills for the city as it takes $1 million out of the electric fund budget. So, I don’t see why the city citizens should get a discount when others do not. So, raise the taxes for City of Washington residents so you can pay your own bills.

The people who are stealing from the people affected by the tornadoes: Shame on you. This is absolutely terrible that people would take advantage of people who have lost everything.

My comment would be on NASCAR: You do a good job of inserting AP sports writers’ articles on NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers. More importantly to the sport is how they qualified and their starting positions and how they finished in your Tuesday paper. Hopefully, you will start putting NASCAR lineups in your paper.
