Suspect arrested, another sought

On June 8 at approximately 12:48 p.m., Beaufort County deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity on N.C. Highway 33 near the CCC No. 1 Road, Chocowinity.

The person making the report said a vehicle was parked on Sawyer Road, and that its occupants walked into a wooded area where scrap metal is kept. Upon arrival, Sgt. Charles Rose searched the wooded area and discovered two people in a storage building on the property. The two white men ran as Rose approached.

Additional deputies responded to the area and began a search. The suspects’ vehicle was secured and towed from the scene. Deputy Lewis Young located one on the suspects on N.C. 33 near Tripp Road. The suspect was attempting to get a ride away from the area. The suspect was identified as Scott Allen Williams, 30, of Upper Neck Road, Bayboro. He was arrested.

After conducting interviews and collecting evidence, Rose obtained warrants charging Williams and Noah Frank Massengill, 27, of Wildlife Road, New Bern, each with felony breaking and entering, attempted felony larceny and resisting a public officer. Williams was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond. Massengill is at large.
