On June 26, at approximately 9:10 p.m., deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault call in the 3000 block of N.C. Highway 33 West in Grimesland. While deputies were speaking to the assault victim, the sheriff’s office received a call about a break-in that recently occurred at a nearby residence.
Deputies responded to the break-in and learned the homeowner came home and discovered two people exiting her home. The homeowner reported she assaulted the people as they fled her residence. Deputies began an investigation and conducted interviews. The victim of the assault was identified as the suspect in the break-in.
As a result of information collected during the investigation, Sgt. Jeremy Landeck arrested Miguel Raul Renteria, 19, of West Barr Road, Chocowinity, and Stoney Lyn Berry, 19, of N.C. 33 West, Grimesland, and charged each with second-degree burglary. Berry also was charged with driving while license revoked.
Each was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $7,500 secured bond.
