Evelyn A. Alligood, age 77, a resident of 6966 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington, died Sunday, July 10, 2011.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Tony Krantz. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Mark Evans, Paris Alligood, Randy Alligood, Glenn Alligood, Paul Alligood and Ryan Alligood will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on March 23, 1934, to the late Ivey A. and Dora Jefferson Alligood. On May 23, 1965, she married Clarence Gray Alligood, who survives. She was a 1952 graduate of Bath High School and was a telephone operator with Carolina Telephone, Sprint and AT&T, retiring in 1999 after 45 years of service. Mrs. Alligood was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Alligood of the home; two sisters, Olive Deans of Washington, Elsie Drummond and husband Francis of Harrellsville, N.C.; one brother, Lane Alligood and wife Tippie of Washington; one brother-in-law, Arvie Woolard of Fayetteville and her best friend, Frances Latham of Washington. She was preceded in death by one sister, Hattie Rivers Woolard and one brother-in-law, William R. Deans.
