The Daily News has learned that former Washington city Councilman Richard Brooks has filed to run for council again.

Brooks lost the last time he ran roughly two years ago.

Also in the Washington council race are Lloyd May and Rick Gagliano, both of whom are favored by a subcommittee of the Beaufort County Republican Party. The GOP formed the subcommittee to identify conservative candidates for the council races.

Filing for re-election to the council were incumbents Doug Mercer, Gil Davis, Ed Moultrie, Bobby Roberson and William Pitt.

All five council seats are up this year.

Mayor Archie Jennings is running unopposed.

The filing period for municipal elections ended at noon today (Friday).
