K-9 leads to drug bust

On July 12, investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit conducted a vehicle stop on Kary Clarence Pettiford, 42, of 651 E. Third St. in Aurora to serve an arrest warrant on Pettiford for possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine. Archie Spellman, 34, of 220 Spring Creek Road in Aurora was a passenger in the vehicle.
K-9 Elza alerted on the vehicle that Pettiford was driving. Investigators conducted a search of the vehicle and found a spoon containing cocaine residue under the passenger seat and 32 packages of K-2 Spice (synthetic cannabinoid) in the back seat.
Pettiford and Spellman were arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver synthetic cannabinoid, felony possession of synthetic cannabinoid and possession of cocaine.
Pettiford and Spellman were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $6,000 secured bond.
