Mr. Max Gerald Langley Sr., 76, passed away Friday, July 15, 2011.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the University Church of Christ.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.
Mr. Langley, a native of Pitt County, lived his early life near Washington and had made his home in Greenville since 1966. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. He worked as a salesman for Carolina Dairies for a number of years and later retired from Keebler Company after 27 years of service.
Mr. Langley, a former member of Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ in Washington, was a charter member of the University Church of Christ in Greenville where he served as a deacon and elder. He was active in the men’s prayer breakfast on Wednesday mornings and enjoyed his monthly gathering with friends from Washington High School. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in their sports activities.
Mr. Langley was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin “B.” and Elsie Langley.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Delores Cutler Langley; daughter, Janet Langley Camp and husband, Steve, of Winterville; sons, Max G. “Jerry” Langley, Jr. and wife, Jeanne, of Danville, Va., James “Jimmy” Langley of the home, and Jonathan Cutler Langley and wife, Michelle, of Belhaven; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
