Equestrians do well at state 4-H horse show

Members of the Loping Around 4-H Horse Club earned several awards during the 2011 North Carolina State 4-H Championship Horse Show held in Raleigh from July 6-July 10.

Morgan Hopkins and her American quarter horse gelding, Wrapped In Red, competed in Junior Western-division events. The horse-and-rider team earned a second-place finish in the halter geldings category, a seventh-place finish in Junior Western Pleasure and were finalists in Junior Western Equitation. Morgan and her horse competed against 17 entries in each class.

Josie Keech and her American quarter horse mare, Pretty Astonishing, competed in Senior Western-division events. The horse-and-rider team earned a third place finish in Senior Western Pleasure against 34 entries and a third place finish in Senior Horse Western Pleasure against 50 entries

Sidney Marslender and her American quarter horse mare, Miss Custom Flash, competed in Senior Western-division events. The horse-and-rider team earned a sixth-place finish in Senior Western Pleasure against 34 entries and were finalists in Senior Horse Western Pleasure.

Members of the club also entered Artistic Expressions competitions, displaying their creativity in equine-themed crafts. Morgan won the junior-division photography competition and earned a second-place finish in junior-division poster contest, a fourth-place finish in junior-division drawing, a fourth-place finish in junior sewing and a sixth-place finish in junior-division painting. Keech won the senior-division sewing competition and placed eighth in senior-division poetry.

Sidney earned a fourth-place finish in senior-division drawing. Madison Marslender received a sixth-place award in junior-division sewing, while Cloverbuds Katie Hopkins and Averi Marslender represented the club in drawing, poster and painting contests.

Club members qualified for the state show by placing well in their respective divisions at the Northeast District 4-H Show held in April.
