Arbor W. Gray

Arbor W. Gray of Plantation Village, Wilmington, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the Davies Health Care Center.
Arbor was born on July 7, 1922 at Pawtucket, RI. He attended public schools in Park City, Utah, the University of Utah, and Duke University Law School where he graduated in 1950. He was a member of the North Carolina Bar Association.
He was the son of William Patterson Gray and Helen Crawford Gray. He married Mary Diamond of Washington, NC, in September of 1945.
Arbor served from 1942 until early 1946 in the US Navy and in the US Marine Corps Aviation as a fighter pilot of F4U-1 Corsair aircraft. He learned to fly at Pensacola NAS and was stationed at Cherry Point MCAS as a captain during WWII. Aviation was his lifelong interest.
Arbor retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1973, having been a special agent since 1950. Mary Diamond Gray died in 1980.  Arbor married Anne Butler Chabris in 1980 and they have lived at Plantation Village since 1996.
His surviving family includes his wife, Anne; his sons with Mary: Lindsay and Warren; Anne’s adult children: John Chabris, Margaret Chabris, Paul and wife Dale Chabris with their daughter Krista; brother John Gray and wife Ramona with their two daughters.
The funeral was held at 2:00 pm on August 6 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 John Small Ave. in Washington, NC, and was officiated by Travis Boyd. Interment followed at Oakdale Cemetery.
