Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

I read Gary Ceres’ column Thursday morning. It is so ridiculous for the city fathers to be thinking of removing ways for these businesses to get more customers. We are in an economic depression. Let’s help them all we can. We want a thriving downtown. What a great column he wrote. It hit the heart of the matter.

There is an ordinance that forbids feeding the feral cats downtown — an ordinance that needs changing. These poor, homeless animals were put there by someone, so why should they be starved to death. Animal lovers: what the city is doing is just not right. Please do something humane. What the city is doing is not humane.

How dare Washington Electric Utilities print a half-page ad saying that the mercury is rising and your rates aren’t. For all practical matters, for people outside the city limits the rates have risen. The City Council, county commissioners and, perhaps, the utilities commission need to do something about this.

I want to voice my agreement with what Gary Ceres said in Thursday’s column. I think the town council in Washington should stop focusing on the trivia and get down to the problem that Gary identifies very clearly.
