The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed an abandoned house in Beaufort County on Wednesday night, according to Bunyan Volunteer Fire Department Chief David Lewis.

Firefighters with the Bunyan and Chocowinity Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire, which started about 10:30 p.m., Lewis said. The abandoned house, located on Hayes Circle off River Road, did not have electricity, Lewis said.

Lewis said he asked the sheriffs office Wednesday night to investigate the fire. He said investigators were expected at the fire scene Thursday.

“It was fully engulfed,” Lewis said about the house.

Firefighters spent about three hours at the scene, he said. No injuries resulted because of the fire, he said.
