Two shelters will be open to evacuees in the Washington area at 4 p.m., Beaufort County government announced.

The shelters will be located at P.S. Jones Middle School and Washington High School.

“These two shelters provide us with full back-up power supply and pooled resources to sufficiently handle evacuees from low lying areas of Beaufort County,” Jim Chrisman, interim county manager, said in a news release.

The county has ordered a mandatory evacuation of all low-lying, flood-prone areas. Anyone who has flood insurance or has encountered flooding at his or her current residence is being told to evacuate immediately.
