Mr. Irving “Irv” Goodrich Bailey, age 99, of Washington, N.C., and formerly of Westhampton, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at the University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, N.C.

He was born in Walton, N.Y., on June 12, 1912, to the late Edward Charles Bailey and Edith Seeley Goodrich Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a former farmer, carpenter and also a restaurant and motel owner. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his wife, Irene. She was the former Irene Estelle Everett of Bath, N.C. They were married in 1938.

Mr. Bailey is survived by two sons: Brian Everett Bailey of New York, N.Y., and Edward David Bailey of Washington, N.C., one sister; Dorothy Simpson of Van Vleck, Texas.

He was preceded in death by eight sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Bailey had been a resident of Washington since June 2004.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington with the Rev. Kevin Johnson officiating.

A committal service will be held in Westhampton, N.Y., at a later date.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington. There will be no visitation at the home.
