Bobby Gene Waters Sr., 76, of 24369 U.S. Highway 264 East, Pantego, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, in his home.

Mr. Waters was born in Beaufort County on Sept. 16, 1934, and was the son of the late Elmer and Irene Tetterton Waters. Known as “one of the twins from Hunter’s Bridge,” he attended school in Bath until the 11th grade and then moved to Pantego where he graduated in 1952. On June 25, 1954, he married the former Faye Everett who survives. He was a farmer of small grain and later cotton until suffering a stroke in 2003. In years past, he had also been employed as a breakfast cook for Kim’s Diner and later owned and operated Yeatesville Mini Mart. He was a member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ and the Bath Ruritan Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melody Hope Waters; and two brothers, his twin, Billy, and Donald Waters.

Surviving other than his wife are two sons, Bobby Waters Jr. and wife Jennifer of Virginia Beach and Victor Waters and wife Penny of Bath; two daughters, Kim Van Essendelft and husband Ted of Pantego and Valinda Leggett and husband Greg of Washington; a sister, Joy Hubbard of Morehead City; 12 grandchildren, Bobby III, Jorge, Melanie, Jeremy, Keith, Blake, and Ben Waters, Jillian, TJ and Quentin Van Essendelft, Brent Pilgreen and Ryan Leggett; seven great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver of the past six years, Mary Gibbs.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Clair’s Church of Christ, 9814 Highway 99 South, Bath, by minister Craig Hagen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the church and all other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Clair’s Church of Christ or to the Beaufort County Department of Social Services, P.O. Box 1358, Washington, NC 27889 and should be directed for use in the RESPITE Program.
