Carolyn Roebuck Long

Carolyn Roebuck Long, 66, of Blacksburg, Va., was called to be with the Lord on Sept. 9, 2011, after a courageous battle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Armistead A. Long Jr.; her parents, Maggie Briley Roebuck and Oscar Henry Roebuck; brothers, J.C. Roebuck and Oscar (Buck) Roebuck; and infant sister, Mildred Carolyn, who died at birth.
She leaves behind two loving sons, Charles Grant Long and wife, Stephanie, of Christiansburg, and Michael Brent Long and wife, Sandi, of Roanoke, Va.; her beloved grandchildren, who will miss her greatly, Bryce Long, Kerabeth Long, Brendon Long and Brody Long. She also leaves behind nieces, Janice James and Marlene Lucas; sister-in-law, Doris Roebuck; brother-in-law, William Long and wife, Judy, as well as many friends and loved ones, who also will miss her in her passing.
She was an active member of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church and enjoyed the Senior Saints Ministry. She was a retired administrative assistant with Bluefield State College of over 14 years and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and friend. She so enjoyed the “apples of her eye”, her grandchildren and her beloved dog, Missy Sierra.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, from 5 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home, 1300 N. Franklin St., Christiansburg, VA 24073, with a funeral service to be held at 7:15 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Matthew Kirkland officiating. A second visitation will be held at Paul Funeral Home, 900 John Small Avenue, Washington, NC 27889, on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, in the Paul Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, N.C.
