Shepard Center hosts healthy living with cancer series

The Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center will host its educational series “Healthy Living with Cancer” starting Tuesday. The four-week program is designed to help cancer survivors gain their well-being.
Participants will meet with an oncologist, dietitian, exercise specialist and physical therapist. The special guest for this series will be Elizabeth Sherwood, RN, MS, ANP-C. Sherwood is a survivorship and oncology integrative medicine programs coordinator from the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill.
Participants will learn invaluable tools and resources to help them stay healthy. Participants will also receive helpful materials including nutritional information tailored to a cancer patient’s needs.
The group will meet at the LifeStyles Medical Fitness Center, 1375 Cowell Farm Road, Washington. Interested participants must register by calling the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center at 252-975-4308 by Monday.
Refreshments will be served.
Program dates and speakers are as follows:
- Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. – Dr. Jennie Crews, oncologist, and Nicole DaVia, PA.
- Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. – Laurel MacKenzie, dietitian
- Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. – Jennifer Weatherly, exercise specialist, and Sara McCall, physical therapist
- Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. – Elizabeth Sherwood, survivorship coordinator
All Cancer Center programs are free thanks to the community support of the Shepard Cancer Foundation.
