Elsie Alligood Bennett Drummond

Mrs. Elsie Alligood Bennett Drummond, 80, of Oak City, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, after a lengthy courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born March 17, 1931, to the late Ivy Albert Alligood and Dora Jefferson Alligood in Washington. She was married to Thomas Bennett May 25, 1958, for 30 years, who died Dec. 18, 1988. She later married Francis Bain Drummond on Sept. 17, 1995, who lives in Emporia, Va. She was retired from Carolina Telephone Co. with 43 years of service. She was a member of the Oak City Christian Church, where she had served as a choir member, a Sunday school teacher and the Christian Women’s Fellowship.

Surviving are two sons, Todd Bennett and wife Darlene of Harrellsville and Brent Bennett and wife Rhonda of Winterville; sister, Olive Alligood Deans of Washington; brother, Lane Alligood and wife Tippy of Washington; stepsons, Bain Drummond of Emporia, Va., and Gary Drummond of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers-in-law Arive D. Woolard of Fayetteville and Clarence G. Alligood of Washington.

Preceding her in death were sisters, Hattie Alligood Woolard and Evelyn Alligood, and brother-in-law, William R. Deans.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Oak City Christian Church, officiated by the Rev. Hugh Mizelle. Burial will be in the Oak City Cemetery.

Visitation will be today at the church from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
