The Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross to help people in eastern North Carolina who were affected by Hurricane Irene’s damage.

The entire contribution will assist in immediate, short-term relief efforts coordinated by Red Cross chapters in eastern North Carolina. The contribution is in addition to the many volunteer hours and individual contributions donated by Weyerhaeuser employees and their families to relief efforts.

“We are pleased to be able to aid recovery efforts in the wake of such a destructive storm,” said Frank Rackley, Weyerhaeuser North Carolina Timberlands manager. “Weyerhaeuser has been part of the fabric of eastern North Carolina for more than 50 years, and we are honored to help our communities in need.”

Since 1948, the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund (formerly Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation) has directed more than $208 million to communities nationwide where Weyerhaeuser employees work, live and play.
