Harry Stephens Phelps Jr., 84, of Plymouth, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Roanoke Landing Nursing Center in Plymouth.
Born Dec. 21, 1926, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Harry Stephens Phelps Sr. and Stella Woodley Phelps and was preceded in death by his sister, Alice P. Gurganus and brother, Robert L. Phelps. Mr. Phelps was a retired lab technician with Weyerhaeuser Corporation, a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and member of First Christian Church.
His family includes his wife Evelyn Gurganus Phelps of Plymouth, N.C.; daughters, Dianne P. Bradshaw and husband Jim of Wilson, N.C. and Nancy P. Culbreth and husband Mike of Plymouth, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael Culbreth Jr., Bryant Culbreth and Ashley Bradshaw.
Funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. V. Tom Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
