Mrs. Maxine Bowen Edwards

Mrs. Maxine Bowen Edwards, age 95, died Monday morning, Sept. 26, 2011, at Ridgewood Manor.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Windley Cemetery on the Loop Road, Plymouth, officiated by pastor William Creech and Stanley Allen.

Mrs. Edwards was born in the Lake Landing community on May 2, 1916, daughter of the late Mack Hassell Williams Sr. and Juanita McKinney Williams. In December, 1936, she married David Hunter Bowen who preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1988. Later, in 1996, she married Murray Edwards who preceded her in death in 2006. She was a cosmetologist and a pre-school teacher in Plymouth. She was known as “Miss Mac” by the children she taught. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Plymouth for more than 55 years. She served in various capacities, including pianist, youth director and adult Sunday School teacher. While at Ridgewood Manor, she was a member of the Sunday class there. She loved music and playing bingo.

Mrs. Edwards is survived by her daughter: Patricia Faye Boyd of Plymouth; her grandchildren: Melody Woolard and husband Dwain of Bath; Lisa Renee Ange and husband Terry of Plymouth; Melissa Nicole Smith and husband Bryan of Auburndale, Fla.; her great-grandchildren: Coty Woolard, Dillon Kane Woolard, Justin Woolard, Dana Hope Woolard, Christian Ange, Hayley Smith, Madison Smith, Tyler Smith; her brothers: Cecil Byrum Williams and wife Bernice of Pamlico Beach, Fred H. Williams and wife Gail of Plymouth; special friend, Dennis Smith and multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she is preceded in death by her stepmother: Alice Williams, foster son: Bobby York Mobley; brothers: Mack Hassell Williams Jr. and Robert H. Williams; her sister: Madelyn VanGyzen; son-in-law: Guy S. Boyd and her great-grandson: Bryan Keith Woolard.

The family will receive friends at the home of her granddaughter, Melody Woolard, located at 121 Berkley Road, Bath.
