Ruby Lee Boyd Crisp

Mrs. Ruby Lee Boyd Crisp, age 88, a resident of 1543 Whichard’s Beach Road, Chocowinity, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at 15th Street Church of God in Washington officiated by pastor Phillip Jethro and assisted by pastors Thomas Lee and Harold Anderson. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Greg Crisp, Matt Crisp, Robbie Crisp, Jennis Crisp, Billy Gurganus, Dwayne Gurganus, and Kelly Gurganus will serve as pallbearers. Andy Crisp, Brad Kooken-Crisp, Shane Taylor, Tilmon Boyd, Jimmy Taylor, Phillip Boyd, Tony Boyd, Dalmon Boyd, Halston Boyd, Donnie Smith, Ricks Elks, Medford Elks and Louis Martin Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at 15th Street Church of God in Washington and other times at the home of Ottis and Shirley Crisp, 60 Harbor Drive, Chocowinity.
Mrs. Crisp was born in Bath, Sept. 22, 1923, the daughter of the late Rufus Boyd and Sarah Warren Boyd. She was married on Oct. 12, 1941, to Ottis M. Crisp, who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 2009. Mrs. Crisp was first and foremost a devoted servant of Jesus Christ; in serving Him, she tirelessly served others as a homemaker, mother, pastor’s wife, confidante and friend. She and her husband assisted in establishing the Chocowinity and Bath Churches of God, pastoring the Bath and Fort Barnwell churches for over 20 years. During her retirement, she and her husband ministered to the guests at Twin Lakes Camping Resort teaching Sunday School. In later years, she was an active member of the Chocowinity and 15th Street Churches of God. She enjoyed being a part of the Washington church Ladies Ministries and member of the Ambassador’s Sunday School class.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Crisp Allen and husband James of Pantego; three sons, A.L. Crisp and wife Angela of Washington, Ottis Crisp Jr. and wife Shirley, and Jesse Crisp and wife Ann Marie, all of Chocowinity; nine grandchildren, Amy Allen Boyd, Christina Allen Lyon, Greg Crisp, Robbie Crisp, Jennis Crisp, Matt Crisp, Jaime Crisp Chadwick, Brad Kooken-Crisp, and Andy Crisp; and 11 great-grandchildren, Carson Lyon, Sarah and Ethan Boyd, Cayman, Kyle and Kinley Crisp, Emma and Will Crisp, Logan and Grant Crisp, and Asa Chadwick.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charlie Rufus Boyd, William (Bill) Warren Boyd, Carmer P. Boyd and Jatha E. Boyd; and five sisters, Dora (Lizzie) Boyd Chrismon, Hilda Josephine Boyd, Retha Boyd Taylor, Bessie Rachel Boyd and Eunice Boyd Gurganus.
