I like Gary Ceres columns, and he sure does seem to speak the truth.

Thank you for putting Mr. Futrell’s picture in the paper (Thursday). He was a great man.

Why is FEMA utilizing federal tax funds to pay a local contractor in Belhaven to pick up leaves and normal yard trash, plus hurricane debris, through Oct. 31? Belhaven street crews have not picked up any leaves or yard trash since Hurricane Irene occurred.

Why do children get a government check when they don’t have a debilitating condition? Give them free medical assistance as needed, but not a government check.

As a new business owner, I have found city government to be very helpful. Having lived elsewhere, our rates are in line with other cities. As far as regulations, I welcome them, but I don’t need 10 signs in front of my business, only one.

Someone from the Lion’s Club needs to empty the eyeglasses box out in front of Tractor Supply. That is a nice problem to have.

I wish we could read more about the possible air pollution from the proposed sulfur plant. Will it have that rotten-egg odor of our high-school chemistry lab experiments?

Jack’s Creek is a disgrace. What would it take to clean it up? The poor animals are looking like they will hardly make it.

Arthur Williams — you were a Democrat before you were born. Quit trying to be a Republican.
