Derek Attawan Blount, 48, of Mary Street, Chocowinity, was arrested Friday morning on charges of possession of stolen property, failure to register a vehicle, fictitious license plate, driving while license revoked, inspection violation and no financial responsibility (insurance).

The arrest, made by the Washington Police Department, was a result of an automated license-plate reader discovering a stolen license plate on a Ford Thunderbird. The license plate was reported stolen last month.

The police department has two ALPR systems installed on two of its patrol cars.

Blount was placed in jail under a $1,500 secured bond pending court appearances.
