The Washington Police Department participated in Operation Medicine Drop on Saturday.

Officers were at the Washington Wal-Mart, where concerned residents turned in more than 6,000 pills to be destroyed, according to the department.

“These events provide the public a safe, secure way to dispose of medications as well as removing potentially harmful drugs from the community. The event was a success, and, hopefully, prevents someone from getting harmed by removing access to old or expired drugs,” reads an email from the department.
