Mr. Floyd Woolard, age 78, a resident of Virginia Beach, Va., died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011.

Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on June 24, 1933, the son of James Woolard and Fannie Smith Woolard. He married Essie Leggett, his wife of 53 years, on Sept. 4, 1958.

Mr. Woolard was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from a career with Bell Atlantic Telephone Company where he worked as a cable splicer.

He is survived by his wife, Essie, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Robin Woolard of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, Redden Woolard of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Biggs Funeral Home in Williamston officiated by Kurt Honican. Burial will be at Martin Memorial Gardens, Williamston. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
