Clyde L. Sutton

Clyde L. Sutton, 88, formerly of Woodland Circle, Hertford, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 7, 2011, in Chowan Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born in Chowan County, he was the son of the late George Lawrence and Elna Spruill Sutton. He was the retired owner/operator of Sutton & Meads Septic Tank Co. and later worked as sextant at Hertford Baptist Church where he was a member. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Belhaven, having recently received his 60-year pin.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cox Sutton; two daughters and their husbands, Julia S. Rogers and Wade of Plymouth; and Pamela S. Stallings and Jimmy of Edenton; a son and his wife, C. Stephen “Steve” Sutton and Ellen of Elizabeth City; 9 grandchildren, Beth R. Franck and David, Wayland Rogers and Becca, Jennifer S. Mays and Matt, Amy S. Roberson and Eric, Dana S. Cooke and Tim, Stephanie S. Sawyer and Jody, Josh Sutton and Danielle, Leslie Harris and Randall Harris; 13 great-grandchildren, Kassie and Katelyn Franck, Hannah and Grace Rogers, Hailey and Ethan Roberson, Brianna and Bailey Sawyer, Troy and Kaitlyn Sutton, Ashlyn & Kayla Cooke and Harper Mays. He was predeceased by a sister, Elnora Sawyer and brothers, Leroy Sutton, George Sutton and Willie Martin Sutton.

Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Hertford Baptist Church, with Rev. Gregory Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Wood Cemetery.
