Two men face drug charges

On Nov. 3, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office’s Drug Unit arrested Zachary Lamont Draughon, 37, of 13812 N.C. Highway 33 East, Blount’s Creek, and Charles Eugene Bonner, 57, of 2613 South Savannah Road, Belhaven, on drug charges.
Their arrests stemmed from the Drug Unit conducting undercover purchases of cocaine from Draughon and Bonner. Draughon was arrested after a foot chase through a wooded area. Draughon was found to be in possession of a quantity of prescription pain medication at the time of arrest. The Drug Unit also seized drug paraphernalia as a result of a search warrant executed at Bonner’s residence. The Drug Unit had received several complaints of drug activity at Bonner’s residence.
Draughon was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and resist, delay and obstruct a public officer.
Bonner was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.
Draughon was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond. Bonner was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond.
