Students attend conference

Fifteen Southside Future Business Leaders of America members, along with advisers Kathy Clark and Bill Lake, attended the Fall Leadership Conference hosted by Farmville Central High School at The Refuge in Ayden on Oct. 28.

FBLA members who attended were Tiara Lopez, Lori-Catherine Ball, Khadidra Smith, Mary Moore, Tiara Bryant, Paola Claudio, Yasmen McDonald, Brooke Miller, Andy Norman, Joseph Norfleet, Alexis Jenkins, J’Asia Norfleet, Shondasia Grimes, Katisha Hyman and Emily Perry.

Students participated in leadership and team-building activities and in a ropes training course. They had the opportunity to canoe and fish, play soccer and volleyball and participate in games similar to “Minute to Win It.” SHS students worked with students from other schools to complete activities such as plank-walking, moving through a simulated spider web, removing a tire from a tall pole and balancing on a beam.

The SHS FBLA officers for this school year are Lisa Chapman, treasurer; Charnise Hamilton, historian; Tiara Bryant, president; Lori-Catherine Ball, parliamentarian; Emily Perry, reporter; Paola Claudio, secretary; and Yasmen McDonald, vice president.
