Milton Warren Griffin

Milton Warren Griffin, age 98, a resident of Jamesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at Martin General Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smithwick Creek Church. Burial will follow at Tice Cemetery.

Mr. Griffin was born in Martin County, son of the late Ira Fernando and Minnie Peele Griffin. He was a farmer and an educator. He attended Campbell College for two years and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1935. He was principal of the Farm Life School and also taught and coached in Martin County. Mr. Griffin worked for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

Sisters Velma Griffin and Katherine Griffin, and brothers, J.R.P. Griffin and Fred Griffin, all preceded him in death.

On June 12, 1940, he married Wilma Phillips Griffin, who survives. In addition, he is survived by his daughters, Diane and husband Dr. Joe Griffin of Augusta, Ga., and Corinne Russell and husband Stephen of Raleigh; sons, Mike Griffin and wife Sunny of Winston-Salem, and Phil Griffin and wife Sharon of Jamesville; sister-in-law, Bernice Griffin of Williamston; grandchildren, Dr. Keith Griffin and wife Stacey, Dr. Chris Griffin and wife Stephania, Terrell Russell and wife Kelly, Kaylor Russell, Stephanie Griffin, Philip Griffin and wife Amanda, Megan Griffin, Ken Griffin and wife Elizabeth, and Trish Gillispie and husband Brian. He also has 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m Saturday at Cedar Branch Baptist Church, Jamesville, and other times at the home, 1080 Manning Road, Jamesville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Jamesville Fire & Rescue, P.O. Box 17, Jamesville, NC 27846.
