Wylie Vann Jr.

Mr. Wylie Vann Jr., age 82, a resident of 9391 N.C. Highway 99 N., Pantego, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at Union Grove Church of Christ in Pantego, officiated by Scott Askew and Rupert Wallace. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery.

Mr. Vann was born in Montgomery, Ala. on Dec. 24, 1928, son of the late Wylie Vann Sr. and the late Carrie Farmer Vann. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On Sept. 28, 1952, Mr. Vann married the former Grace Allen who survives. He was a retired boiler operator with the former Weyerhaeuser Co. in Plymouth and a member of Union Grove Church of Christ.

Surviving along with Mr. Vann’s wife Grace of the home is a daughter, Joy V. Webster and husband George of Pantego; a son, Jerry A. Vann and his wife Karen of Pantego; a sister, Gaynell Driver of Muncie, Ind.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Vann was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa V. Hollowell; a son, Wylie Norwood Vann; two sisters, Roberta Fomby and Merrell Hendricks; and a brother, Willard “Buddy” Vann.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at Union Grove Church of Christ and other times at the home.
