Ringing in the holidays

The River City Ringers will ring selections as part of the HeART of the City Christmas concert at the Turnage Theater at 8 p.m. tonight.

This concert, sponsored by the Beaufort County Arts Council, has been a Washington tradition for many years. It helps kick off the Christmas season. Selections will include “Do You Hear What I Hear?” “On This Day Earth Shall Ring” and “Fum, Fum, Fum.”

The RCR is an English handbell choir consisting of ringers from many different churches who share the love of music and the challenge of this difficult skill of handbell ringing. The RCR director is Sally Love, who graduated with a degree in music from Allegheny College and has served as music director for several churches, including First Christian Church of Washington, and several choral groups. She is the executive director of Eagle’s Wings.

Three guest ringers will assist with the concert: Greg Barmer, Mike Morgan and Joyce Wolfe.

With RCR being a nonprofit organization, donations are welcome and tax-deductible. Tickets are free and available from the Beaufort County Arts Council, 108 Gladden St., Washington, 946-2504.
