The perfect gift

When contemplating what gifts to give during the Christmas season, please consider giving the gift of life — blood.

According to the American Red Cross, when one donates blood, he or she is giving a gift that money cannot buy — time. A person who donates blood may help save up to three lives, according to an American Red Cross website.

Because the Christmas season can be a busy time for blood donors, they may put off donating blood. That’s not wise. The demand for blood does not decrease during the holiday season. Because blood must be used soon after being donated, it’s vital that donors give blood as close to Christmas as possible.

The Red Cross is conducting a blood drive at the Pungo Ruritan Club, 70 Pike Road, Pantego, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today. Another blood drive is set for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Washington Assembly of God, 2039 W. Fifth St. They provide opportunities to give a gift that saves lives.

What could be more in the spirit of Christmas?
