Library filled with holiday cheer

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas all over town, and the library is no exception.

From festive decorations, to fun, family programs, Brown Library is full of holiday cheer. While you’re out Christmas shopping, make sure to save those pennies. The Friends of the Brown Library’s annual winter book sale is just around the corner in January, and you definitely won’t want to miss its fabulous deals.
Get the children in the Christmas spirit with Brown Library’s annual children’s Christmas program, a fun event for the entire family. Join us at 11 a.m. Saturday for stories, songs and yummy refreshments. Children ages 5 through 12 are invited to attend, accompanied by an adult, to welcome in the yuletide season. And be sure to stick around after the holiday stories for a fun, family Christmas movie, starting at 12:15 p.m. This is a free event, with no sign-up required.
The library is looking wonderfully festive this year, thanks to the Pamlico River Quilters’ Guild. Every year, the guild decorates a Christmas tree for us, as well as a providing a display in the library entryway. Be sure to stop by the magazine area and appreciate the twinkling lights and handmade ornaments.
There is no better time than winter to curl up with a book and disappear from the hustle and bustle of the busy holidays. This month, the teen display area is honoring Walt Disney’s birthday with one of his favorite things: fairytales. Featuring modern retellings and classics both, everyone is sure to find a whimsical tale to suit his or her fancy.

Brown Library will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 26 in observance of Christmas. It reopens Dec. 27 and resumes normal operating hours. The library will be closed Jan. 1-2. It reopens Jan. 3 with regular hours.

Brown Library is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays; and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
