Gladys Chrismon Bland

Mrs. Gladys Chrismon Bland, age 90, a resident of 1011 E. 7th St., Washington, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cutler family cemetery in Bath and will be conducted by Derik Davis. Josh Rice, Joe Rice, Greg Wallace, Kerry Bland, Ryan Hester and Ron Curtis will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Bland was born in Guilford County on Dec. 15, 1920, to the late Al and Clorene Isley Chrismon. On Sept. 21, 1937, she married Robert Edward Bland who preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1969. She was a homemaker, worked for Walton’s Sandwich Shop in Hampton, Va., and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Newport News, Va.

Survivors include two daughters, Starr Krosting and husband Dean of Davidson, and Cynthia Dedmond and husband Randy of Suffolk, Va.; two sons, Robert Bland of Davidson and Greg Bland of Washington; three sisters, Lutisha Hill of Chocowinity, Luvina White of New Bern, and Barbara Dean Parks of Clinton, Tenn.; one brother, Herbert Chrismon and wife Margaret of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Charlie Kenneth Bland and Larry Gene Bland, two brothers, and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. tonight at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
