Vernon M. Myers

Mr. Vernon M. Myers, age 76, a resident of 524 Ellis Cove, Belhaven, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven officiated by Bob Beltz and James Scheffler. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens of Washington. Reid Radcliffe, Shane Hubers, Jason Baker, Denny Wallace, Chad Arthur and Ricky Windley will serve as pallbearers. Freddie Sawyer, Marshall Marslender, Reid Cooper and Mr. Myers’ grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Myers was born in Beaufort County on May 24, 1935, son of the late Wilber Fred Myers and the late Geraldine Dunshee Myers. He was a 1954 graduate of Pantego High School. On April 1, 1954, he married the former Valerie Mae Ellis who survives. Mr. Myers was the retired owner and operator of Myers Lime Co. of Pantego. He was a past member of Pantego Ruritan Club. He was a member of Pantego Volunteer Fire Department where he served as the first Chief. Mr. Myers served on the Pantego Town Council, served as Pantego’s Mayor Pro Tempore and then served as Mayor. He served on Pungo Christian Academy’s Board of Directors for 13 years and was a member of West Belhaven Church of Christ where he also served on the building committee.

Mr. Myers is survived along with his wife, Valerie, of the home; three daughters, Teresa “Terry” Raupe and husband Joel of Belhaven, Patricia Myers Garrison and husband Jimmy of Pantego, and Renee Myers Dixon of Grimesland; a brother, Ellis Myers and his wife Helen of Pantego; a sister, Nellie Logan of Belhaven; six grandchildren, Valerie Raupe, Breatte Garrison, Brandon Garrison, Colton Dixon, Mackenzie Dixon and Michaela Dixon; and one great-grandchild, Payne Whealton and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Cora Guthrie.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. tonight at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home.
