Betty Perez, who initiates and tracks foreign shipments for LBA Group Inc., participated in a refresher course this month courtesy of the U.S. Department of Commerce. It is part of the continuing need of the federal government to monitor imports and exports in the wake of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Perez, a Washington resident, is director of logistics and resources at the Greenville telecommunications company. In the position since 2008, she has overseen shipments in and out of the country from and to Europe, Africa, South and Central America, India and the United Arab Emirates. Her work is increasingly critical as LBA solidifies its global presence.

The training reiterated export-filing requirements to assure that company materials meet the purview of four agencies — the Census Bureau, Bureau of Industry and Security, Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. State Department.
