Mr. Larry Wendell Jones, beloved husband and cherished father, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012. Despite illness for the last several months, Larry remained a cheerful, steady presence in his family home, up to the end showing the warmth and humor that characterized his life. His love of family, friends and gardening kept him full of life his entire 101 years of age.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Greenville Church of God with Pastor Daylon Mooneyham officiating. Burial will be at the Edwards family cemetery, Grimesland Bridge Road. Kevin Vick, Chris Vick, Tony Vick, Dale Jones, Thomas Fyle and William Owens will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1931 until 1935 and the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1942. He continued to work on the navy shipyard until 1949. Mr. Jones began working with the City of Washington and later retired in 1975 with 26 years of service. He then continued to work at Sawyer’s Auto Parts until 1990. Mr. Jones was an active member of the Greenville Church of God.

He is survived by a daughter, Beverly A. Vick and husband Donald; and two sons, Kenny F. Jones and wife Arlene, and Jimmy L. Jones and wife Marsha of Chocowinity; two daughter-in-laws, Carol Modlin of Chocowinity, and Geraldine Jones of Ahoskie; twelve grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, special nephews I.H. He was preceded in death by three sons, Wendell Jones Jr., Gene Kirkeby Jones both of Chocowinity, and Bobby Jones of Ahoskie.

Despite him living a full, rich 101 years we wish he could have lived forever. He will be so sadly missed and forever in our hearts.
